A bigger city means a harder job standing out

Aberdeen's business base is far wider than anywhere else on this list — energy and the wider move into renewables, professional services, hospitality, retail, and a growing tech and start-up scene around the city's universities. Whatever you do here, you're almost certainly competing against more businesses, more agencies, and more polished websites than in a smaller Aberdeenshire town.

That's exactly why a generic template site or an inconsistent brand costs you more in a city market — there's always a slicker-looking competitor one search result away. Working with a designer who's genuinely built the site from scratch, rather than assembled from a theme, is more of an advantage here than almost anywhere else I cover.

I'm based in Mintlaw, about fifty minutes to an hour away, and most Aberdeen projects run entirely over calls, email and screen-shares — distance has never been an issue for a website or brand project, only for something like an in-person photo shoot, which is easy enough to schedule in.
